Hancock Park School's goals and policies are founded on our belief that our students have fundamental and inalienable rights:
Our Civil Rights
I have the right to learn and help others learn. This means that I will do the best work I can at all times.
I have the right to be safe and treated with compassion. This means that no one will hurt me, tease me, or laugh at me.
I have the right to be myself. This means that no one will treat me unfairly because of my skin color, size, home country, language, or gender.
Hancock Park School Rules
- Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself. Physical attacks, profanity, threats, name-calling and teasing will not be tolerated.
- Take good care of all school property including restrooms. Students and parents will be held financially responsible for damage to desks, books, planted areas and other school property.
- Wear appropriate clothing so you can participate safely in school activities including physical education.
- Always be under the supervision of an adult. When excused to go to the office or the restroom, walk quietly with a partner, and cany a pass.
- Do not bring candy, toys, gum, valuables, or weapons to school.
In accordance with our Safe School Plan, Top Ten Problem Solving fosters a common language for conflict resolution so that all members of our school community may work together in the spirit of kindness, cooperation, and shared responsibility.
Five Principles (based upon Our Civil Rights):
- Safety: Are my actions safe for others and myself?
- Respect: Do my actions show respect for others and myself?
- Honesty: Do I tell the truth?
- Responsibility: Do I take good care of myself and cooperate with others?
- Courtesy: Do I help make our school a pleasant place to learn and work?
Five Steps to problem solving:
- Stop and listen.
- Take turns telling what happened.
- Describe the problem.
- Decide which principle needs attention.
- Decide how to solve the problem so it doesn't happen again.
