ARTS are at the HEART of SMART
A Celebration of the ARTS as Core Curriculum

On June 4th, we will celebrate Arts Day. Nearly 1,000 LAUSD students (age 5 to 18) will be celebrating the arts through song, dance, acting, music and visual arts. The fifth graders are planning to paint a car! Students, parents and teachers will celebrate the arts and let their community know that:

  • We must save Arts Education for our children and the children of the future!!!
  • Our schools are nationally recognized leaders in arts education – let’s not go backwards.
  • Arts are core curriculum along with math, language arts, science and history/social science.
  • We support maintaining and increasing arts education, not the elimination of Arts Programs.

Vote On Measure E On June 8, 2010
Wednesday, 26 May 2010 14:18

Measure E

If passed, Measure E would prevent or reduce cuts in classes, teachers and school staff caused by a harsh drop in state funding. The purpose of this Limited Parcel Tax is to maintain school personnel and services.

Due to harsh cuts in state funding, the school district has had to cut or redistribute $1.3 billion in school services in the past two years and is facing more severe cuts for the upcoming school years.  The proposed budget cuts in the arts teacher corps will undo the progress of years and arts learning.

Measure E would levy a limited tax of $100 per year, which averages to $8.33 per month for four years on every parcel of taxable property within the school district.  Low-income persons 65 years of age or over are eligible for an exemption.
