Dear Hancock Park Families,
I am pleased to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year. Whether you are a returning family or brand new to the community, we are ONE Hancock Park Elementary and are happy to have you here. Our mission is to bring together diverse populations of students and to teach them to work together, to be curious, kind, caring, and inclusive. We view KINDNESS as fundamental!
I have been an educator for 30 years and at the beginning of each school year, I am always enthusiastic about all that will unfold by year’s end. This year I am extraordinarily excited because I am joining an amazing community. We will continue to embrace our commitment to excellence and work together to be great.

Academic Calendar
For your convenience here is the the 2022-2023 Year-at-a-Glance calendar can be found here
Please note the following priorities for the school year ahead:
Academic Excellence High Quality Instruction
Our teachers believe in fostering a safe and respectful atmosphere of inclusiveness, empathy, and inquiry and act as a bridge to content, relationships, and ability.
Attendance
It is the goal of every student to be in attendance 96% of the time. This means missing no more than six days per school year. Please ensure that you send a note and respond to any attendance messages whenever your child is absent. Notes from parents can excuse up to 5 absences per year. After five absences you are required to submit a medical excuse from a doctor. Please keep copies of medical notes. Parents will be invited to a Student Attendance Review Team (SART) meeting if students are on track to miss ten or more days of school.
Lunch Applications
We ask that all families complete lunch applications even if you don’t think you will qualify. Return the paper application or apply online at https://www.myschoolapps.com Information submitted is anonymous.
Bullying
Hancock Park has a zero-tolerance policy toward rudeness, disrespect, intolerance, and bullying.
Covid Compliance and Safety
LAUSD will continue to follow Los Angeles County Covid19 Safety Protocols. I will keep you informed with the latest information and updates per LAUSD guidelines including masking and testing.
Parking, Traffic Safety & Morning Drop-Off Program
Parking is very limited around the school. No parking in the staff parking lot, driveways or bus-loading zones—your car may be towed or ticketed. Read posted parking restrictions. As a courtesy, Ross Dress for Less allows our parents and visitors to park in the south end of the Ross parking lot for ~10 minutes before school starts and after school ends. You might have to pay a fee to exit the Ross lot, if you stay longer.
Morning Valet Drop-Off Program
Our Information forthcoming due to emerging Covid19 and LAUSD guidelines.
TK/Kindergarten parents
If you arrive at school after 8:07 a.m., you will need to find parking and walk your child to our Welcome Table at the Colgate Avenue entrance. TK/Kindergarten students may not come onto campus or leave by themselves; an adult-to-adult hand-off is required for drop-off and dismissal.
The first day of school is First day of school, Monday, August 15, 2022. It will be a Minimum Day 8:07am -1:10pm.
THE PARENT PORTAL
All parents should sign up for and link your child(ren) to their parent portal account. You will need access to this account to remain an equal partner in your child’s learning. You can also receive important information about your child’s progress including teacher assignments. If you did this previously as a Hancock Park or another LAUSD school you don’t need to do it again.
It’s going to be a great year!
Sincerely,
Robin
